Indian Institute of Science Education and Research invites applications from highly motivated students for admission toPh.D. Program beginning in August 2011.

Eligibility for IISER PhD Admission 2011 :

1. Masters degree in Biological / Chemical / Physical / Mathematical / Allied Medical Sciences or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Medicine. 60% marks or equivalent is desirable.
1. Qualifying in one of the following national level tests with validity as on 1st of August 2011 : CSIR UGC JRF / DBT JRF / GATE / ICMR JRF.
2. The Second requirement ( qualifying in a National Test ) is waived for applicants interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution.
3. Candidates in the final year of the Masters degree in the above fields and qualify in the national level examinations are strongly encouraged to apply.
2. IISER PhD 2011 Selection procedure :
   1. All shortlisted candidates are required to appear for a IISER Written Aptitude Test. For candidates whose Research interests are in the area of Ecology and Evolution, a Written Aptitude Test in this subject area is mandatory. Candidates interested in any other area of Biological Sciences, must take a IISER Written Aptitude Test consisting of reasoning problems in Science and Mathematics.
   2. Candidates can appear for only one of these IISER Written Aptitude Test 2011.
   3. Only candidates who qualify the IISER Written Aptitude Test will appear for an IISER Interview.
   IISER PhD Research Areas :
   • Biochemistry, Ecology and Evolution, Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cell Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Structural Biology.
   Relaxation of IISER PhD Eligibility Criteria for SC / ST candidates will be made according to the Government of India rules.
   All students admitted to the IISER PhD Program receive fellowships either from national fellowships like CSIR UGC JRF / DBT JRF / ICMR JRF / NBHM or from IISERTVM.
